The Site Looks Like Crap
Doesn't it? It sure does. Some temporary measures have been taken until I find the time to fully revamp the main page layout, menus and navigations of the website. For the sake of simplicity, I merged all my Movie Reviews to the Entertainment section. All my reviews are now accessible from the Entertainment menu. The various essays that were in the Features section of John's Head have been redistributed to Entertainment, Nerd Alert! and OUR so-called SPORT's Features menus according to the appropriate subject matter. The menus for the remaining content found in John's Head are at the top of the main page. John's Head is now closed (which is not the same as John being closed-minded, although a strong argument could be made in support of this.)
At the moment, the Head Butts blog will be closed for new entries. Most everything I tend to talk about revolves around movies, television, wrestling, and video games (although the latter hasn't happened for a while.) Movies and TV now fall under the jurisdiction of Entertainment, so instead of a long unwieldy blog, everything will have an individual page and will be accessed from the Entertainment menu. Same for anything involving wrestling, all that goes into OUR so-called SPORT. I suppose anything off topic I might decide to write about will find its way into Head Butts.
LAST MAN STANDING
April 19, 2006
Jeff and Rob quit Back of the Head for all intents and purposes. It's not like it's a surprise. Their output had become virtually non-existent over the past few months. As the last man standing, this leaves me with two options.
One, I can fold the site. It would certainly be the easiest thing to do. Fun, too – setting the chairs on top of the tables, putting out the lights, and sending everybody home. Ooo, tempting.
Two, I can continue the site. This, in fact, is exactly what I'm going to do. Sporadic updates to the main site aside, John's Head has been the only active part of Back of the Head for months. The bottom line is I like my website. I find it valuable. I enjoy it. And if you're one of our readers, I can say the same about you.
So Back of the Head forges onward, with literally one head, mine. For better or worse. I'll miss Rob and Jeff, maybe you will too, but they won't entirely disappear. Everything that has existed on this site since its inception in October, 2004 will remain available in the archives. This includes Rob's Head and Jeff's Head. And who knows, they might pop in from time to time.
The rest of the website will be undergoing changes.
A new look? Probably not. A few minor changes aside, this will remain the same crappy looking site I saw in my mind's eye when I designed it. I'll be working to gradually merge the John's Head archives with the main site's archives to make navigation easier.
New content? In your dreams. Try less content. An update to the site every week is the bare minimum. More will be likely, but first we'll see how I play as a one man band. Dropping by once a week would be great, though, so I'll meet you if you come.
When initially conceived, Back of the Head's scope was to cover the news, sports, movies, television, pop culture, whatever else. It was a lot for three people to manage and we quickly and regularly failed to live up to it. As of now, Sports and Headlines (in most cases) are phased out completely. The archives will remain but I won't be talking about the Red Sox or Donald Rumsfeld very much if at all. Even with Rob gone, I'll finish recapping Lost for the rest of the season solo. After that, I'll reevaluate whether to and how to cover Lost, Battlestar Galactica along with everything else on the site.
Essentially, John's Head and Back of the Head are going to become one and the same. I tend to stick with what I know, until something better comes along. This means coverage of movies, television, wrestling, comics, video games, all the silliness I like to talk about. That's my plan for the foreseeable future. There will be other stuff in the works too and I'll unleash any surprises when the time is right.
Still with me? Cool. Glad you stopped by. Bring a friend or two next time. I'll be here.
Back of the Head prevails.
John
