The Most Famous Man in Springfield
With The Simpsons Movie just 8 days away, Homer Simpson will be appearing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Tuesday. "I understand I'm doing a monologue," claimed Homer in a statement about his thoughts on talking to Jay Leno on national television. "I hope it doesn't involve talking." Of course, Homer's already met Leno; Bart, Jay Leno and a monkey gave Krusty the Klown a bath when Homer walked in to take a whiz. There really aren't too many famous people Homer hasn't met.
On that subject, Sean writes:
"Who is the most famous person Homer has ever met (excluding visions and Halloween specials)? Former Presidents Ford and Bush are both pretty famous, but are they as famous as Time's Men of the Year Bono and Bill Gates? While three former Beatles were on the show, Homer only met George Harrison, probably the least famous of the three, although probably more famous than any of the acts in Homerpalooza. Johnny Carson and Liz Taylor were both very famous in their day; one being one of the 3 biggest names in the history of TV, the other the biggest actress in the world for a time (and now just a big actress). This is the kind of question Vanity Fair should really answer. Though the irony is, in a couple of weeks Homer, himself, might be the biggest movie star to ever appear in The Simpsons."
It gets a little confusing if we're gonna determine who Homer met in terms of who actually did their voice as themselves. It narrows down when you separate who appeared on the show as themselves vs. who actually met and interacted with Homer. Neither Presidents Ford, Bush nor Bill Gates actually came in and did their own voices so in a way, Homer didn't really meet them. Homer did meet U2, The Who, Sting, The Smashing Pumpkins, Mick Jagger , Keith Richards, Tom Petty, Lenny Kravitz, Peter Frampton, and Brian "Seltzer". I'm not certain Homer actually met Aerosmith during the "Flaming Moe" episode. He also met Mel Gibson, Alec Baldwin, Kim Basinger, and Ron Howard still presumably hates him. He was an astronaut with Buzz Aldrin "If that is your real name." But he never met Elizabeth Taylor since she didn't do Krusty's Komeback Special. Bart initially met Hugh Hefner and Johnny Carson but they were all at Moe's after the Komeback Special ended so Homer met them as well.
I would have said the most famous person Homer has met is probably Michael Jackson, since Michael did do the voice of the fat white guy who thought he was Michael. But since that fat white guy wasn't actually Michael Jackson, I guess he doesn't actually count.
