Jeff was on IM today!September 8, 2005Honestly, we don’t know what to make of this. Jeff’s been on AOL IM all day long. He’s never on IM. Why is he online? What does this mean? We just don’t know.
John was the first one who noticed. At about noon he saw that Jeff was online. John asked Rob if he knew anything about this, but he didn’t. Rob checked and saw that Jeff had been online for two hours already, which deepened their confusion. Lance Jr chimed in when he noticed that Jeff was online, but to the point, no one had contacted Jeff to find out what that was all about.
We speculated on this unprecedented turn of events. Should we IM him? Do we dare? If he wanted to talk, wouldn’t he have IMed us by now? Maybe he’s been waiting for us to IM him? Maybe he’s mad that we haven’t.
He’s been sitting there on IM all day long and no one knows what to do. It’s like an 800-pound gorilla in the room who hasn’t noticed us yet or isn’t bothering to notice us. The longer this goes on, the worse it gets.
How are we supposed to react to this situation? We weren’t prepared for this. We wouldn’t even know what to do if we were ready to do anything. There’s no FAQ available anywhere to help us. We know, we’ve looked. How do you talk to Jeff on IM? What’s the protocol? What’s he’s like? We don’t know, and frankly, we’re all a little afraid to find out. Our universes are carefully ordered, and up until now, Jeff being on IM has never been a possibility we’ve had to face.
It feels wrong, repugnant, and yet somehow we just can’t turn away. We’re circling, watching, waiting to see what happens. Each of us is hoping the other will do something, or just hoping that this will all go away. But even if it does, nothing will ever be the same again.
There he is, still there, 5 hours and 9 minutes, 0% Warnings. What’s he waiting for? What’s going to happen? Will somebody please tell us what this is all about? |
