CHICKEN RUN

I've seen Mel Gibson's best movie for summer 2000 and it's Chicken
Run. I was not familiar with Wallace and Gromit and I wasn't sure
what exactly to expect. I especially didn't want to see another
mindless kid's movie like Titan AE and Dinosaur, no matter how amazing
the animation is. Chicken Run won me over with the opening credits
and I was delighted with this movie. I loved the dead-on homages
to Hogan's Heroes, The Great Escape, and Stalag 13. The chickens
were wonderful characters, vibrant, alive, and very funny. And yet
the movie's stakes were life and death, and that sense of urgency
helped elevate Chicken Run and gave it real weight. The chickens
must escape because they don't want to be killed and eaten! Chicken
Run is hands down the best animated movie of the summer; smart,
witty, and it has a real heart to it.
