HIGHLANDER: ENDGAME

Despite all of the errors and problems with the movie I'm surprised
to say I liked Highlander: Endgame. It was absolutely a bad movie,
but it has some strong points too that deserve mention. The best
thing it has going for it is Adrian Paul, who gave a strong and
charismatic performance, despite being sabotaged by a rotten script
and an incompetent director. His final scene with Christopher Lambert
was appropriately moving; that's due entirely to Paul's performance.
Adrian Paul is a gifted actor who is very underrated. If Highlander:
Endgame had a better script and director, Adrian Paul would have
had a breakthrough in the way the late Brandon Lee would have had
from the first Crow movie. Also well done and heartfelt were Paul's
scenes with his love interest, his former wife Kate. The actress
who played Kate, Lisa Barbuscia, did a nice job with a rather thankless
role. For Highlander fans, Endgame has a fun hodgepodge of items
and characters from the series and the original movie. It was also
great fun to see Connor and Duncan MacLeod together for extended
sequences (and they are in many scenes together, which I enjoyed.)
Of course, there's the patented Highlander sex scene, which delivered
as always in showing off MacLeod's latest lover's fabulous rear
end. And the cameo from 'special guest star Edge' of the WWF totally
reeked of awesomeness; he SO stole the movie in the most important
scene. Kell, the villain, was somewhat compelling, though someone
get the honey glaze for that ham Bruce Payne. Unfortunately the
swordfight scenes were underwhelming, and Christopher Lambert is
looking a little long in the tooth for the supposedly eternally
35 year old Connor MacLeod. Basically, any fan of Highlander: The
Series should watch Endgame just to see Duncan MacLeod finally make
it to the big screen. Adrian Paul does not disappoint. Most anyone
else should skip it and skip it good. But for Highlander fans, Endgame
is the second best Highlander movie ever made.
