**** Star Ratings ****"My God, it's full of stars."
- 2001, A Space Odyssey I'm weird. Since 1996, I've kept a record of every movie I've seen in a movie theatre with star ratings. Everything from 2000 to now is here. I only rate movies I see in movie theatres. I don't rank what I see on DVD, so if I didn't see it in a theatre, it doesn't count for this listing. Don't ask me why. If it matters to you at all what I think and if these are helpful in any way, super, glad my meticulous and neurotic record keeping of my movie-going is beneficial. All star rankings are subjective and they do not tell the entire story. Star rankings are just a basic impression and guideline. My star rating system is geared mostly towards evaluating the bad movies. When you see as many movies as I do, you have to wade through a deluge of crap. The star ratings are my revenge of sorts. The highest ranking I give is four stars (****). That means the movie is excellent. Not perfect, not the best ever, just excellent. Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope is ****, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is ****, Citizen Kane and Casablanca are ****. Which is the best of the bunch? I don't worry about that. To me excellence is excellence. But crap is a different story, and there are levels of crap that I've determined. The number following some star ratings indicate how many times I saw that movie in the theatre. |
