Nerd Alert!
Head to Head

A COUPLE OF JOKERS
July 20, 2006
John: Heath Ledger as the Joker? Huh.
Alex: is that true?
John: AICN has the rumor up.
John: With the usual whining about how it should be Crispin Glover.
Alex: I think that's a pretty interesting choice
Alex: I can't say I like it because I don't know if it'll work...but I'm intrigued
John: Heath has the smile.
Alex: it makes me want to see the movie to see whether or not it works
John : I think it's a pretty good casting choice.
John: If it even happens.
Alex : I don't like Crispin as the Joker
John: Me neither. The geeks always think, "Oh, who would be my wet dream of the Joker? Who looks like the comic?" Lots of people could look like the Joker. What you're really supposed to be looking for is, who would work great opposite Christian Bale?
Alex: Johnny Lee Miller feels right to me, but he might not be any good
Alex : I think Miller looks more like the Joker
John: I can see that, but you're also looking for some star power, not just a character actor.
Alex: true
John: I think Ang Lee should be the Joker.
Alex : and like I said, I don't know if he can act
John : Or M. Night Shyamalan as the Joker.
Alex: you know who else has a good look, but again probably can't act and delivers no star power? Johnathon Schaech
John: I never want to see that guy in anything again.
Alex: what about 8mm2
John: Who the fuck greenlit that?
Alex: its already made
John: Why?
Alex: and it's an erotic movie
John: I'd rather see Bring It On: All or Nothing.
John: Which I probably will.
Alex: never doubted that
John: If they wanted Batman 2 to be gigantic, the biggest movie ever: Johnny Depp as the Joker.
John: Also, Keira Knightley as Catwoman, Orlando Bloom as Two Face.
John: And call it Batman of the Caribbean.
John: What about Paul Bettany, Adrien Brody, Vincent Cassel as potential Jokers?
John: I feel like Bettany has played too many psychos. Same with Cassel.
John: Brody, I don't know about.
John: What about Owen Wilson?
Alex: no
Alex: I was trying to think about Wilson doing anything serious
Alex: and I can't
Alex: last night I saw You, Me & Dupree
Alex: which was the worst movie ever
John: So I've heard.
Alex: I was sitting there thinking, could Wilson do anything serious...ever?
Alex: and I decided the answer was no
John: Wasn't he serious in Bottle Rocket? Never saw it.
Alex: no, same character he always plays...there was more drama to the movie, but it was Wes Anderson's first film...how serious do you think it could be? anyway, I think Cassell would be an interesting choice...Bettany and Brody, no way
Alex: too bad Jimmy Oliver isn't a bigger star...he'd be great
Alex: a bit on the young side though
John: How old is Bale? 35?
John : As Batman he's playing about 30.
Alex: guess that's true
Alex: you know who I'd cast?
Alex: wait, tell me who you'd cast first
Alex: if you were making the movie and could cast ANYONE you wanted
Alex : and it would be the final decision...who would it be?
John: Jack Nicholson after I build a time machine and pluck him out of 1968.
Alex: seriously
Alex: who would you cast
John: Will Arnett.
Alex: if Batman Begins stood as it does...and you had the sequel
John: I don't know, probably Bettany, I'd say.
Alex: are you serious?
John: Why is Bettany out of the question?
Alex: you just said you think Bettany's played too many psychos
John: What's one more?
John: I'm kidding.
John: Seriously, I already said. Johnny Depp. Biggest movie ever.
Alex: Depp would be good
Alex: good choice
John: I'd make $300,000,000!
John: I did it!
Alex: I'd cast Edward Norton
John: Ooh, also good.
John: But not $300,000,000 good.
Alex: I think he'd make a classic out of the role
John: I'd see your Batman movie with Bale and Norton.
John: I'd say, "That was great. That was a great $200,000,000 grosser you guys put together."
Alex: I'd see yours with Bale and Depp...but I wouldn't buy the ticket, I'd just sneak in...cause it'd be making plenty of money on its own
John: I'd have my ushers on the look out for you.
Alex: you don't own all the ushers
John: True, but I will after I gross $300,000,000.
Alex: we should make a bet on which one of our Batman movies will gross more
John: I was just thinking that.
John: That'll make two bets I win.
